National Curriculum music teaching

NMPAT can provide experienced class teachers to deliver whole class national curriculum music teaching for Key Stages 1 and 2, and support for Early Years and Foundation Stage.  This area of support is in high demand and we recommend that you make your request for booking via the online SLA form as soon as possible.

National Curriculum teaching is usually delivered for the whole school year but can be altered depending on the needs of your school.

To enable effective practice, schools should provide a context and a suitable learning environment for classroom lessons to take place by:

  • providing an appropriate classroom for music making
  • providing an appropriate range of pitched and unpitched classroom instruments, sound makers and beaters
  • providing access to white / smart board technology and speakers
  • providing internet access, Wi-Fi codes and notifying the NMPAT teacher of any possible limitations e.g. filters
  • liaising with the NMPAT teacher about any specific requirements connected with the curriculum, to enable effective planning to be carried out e.g. termly topics or cross curricular themes
  • providing class registers
  • providing a TA who knows the class, to advise on specific pupil issues and the implementation of the school behaviour policy
  • advising the NMPAT teacher about any pupils with additional learning needs, which may affect their learning
  • informing the NMPAT teacher who the school’s child protection and safeguarding designated person is and providing a school policy

Music Technology / Production

For secondary schools, NMPAT are able to provide music tuition for students at KS3 and above.  This can support those taking exams with technology elements, including GCSE, BTEC and A-Level courses.

We have a number of specialist teachers who can offer more general support and guidance to music departments regarding their music technology provision, either on a one-off or ongoing basis, subject to availability.  For further information on Music Technology support, please contact Iain McKnight, Director of Ensembles and Projects: imcknight@nmpat.co.uk
