The Home Studio Course

Become a home-studio music producer and develop the skills you need to create, produce and mix your own tracks from home, supported by expert tutors via live Zoom sessions on Tuesday evenings.

Beginners (5.00 to 5.55pm)

Perfect for those new to music production.

Course includes:

  • How to use a DAW confidently and creatively

  • Sequencing and editing

  • Basic use of audio and MIDI

  • Identifying studio equipment including microphones, cables and computer peripherals

  • Listening exercises to develop your production ear

  • Balancing and shaping a basic mix

Intermediate (6.00 to 6.55pm)

Ideal for learners ready to expand their production skills.

Course includes:

  • How to produce your own music from scratch

  • Mixing with EQ, compression and professional effects

  • Producing and remixing full songs using provided stems, your own MIDI performances and audio-recorded elements

  • Sound design and audio fundamentals

  • Audio connectors, microphone techniques and computer components

  • Listening tasks to sharpen your sonic fidelity and stylistic awareness

Advanced (1-to-1 Lessons)

Take your skills to the next level with personalised online or in-person sessions tailored to your goals.

Train inside our fully equipped NMPAT recording studio at Kettering Road and learn how to produce industry-standard recordings.

Intermediate Level

Learn to record and mix tracks professionally within a real studio environment.

Course includes:

  • Micing up and recording real instruments including drums, piano, guitars, strings and brass

  • Mixing full songs to a professional standard using EQ, compression, effects, bus sends and automation

  • Learning production terminology, as well as advanced sound and audio fundamentals

Advanced Level

Master high-level recording, mixing and mastering techniques.

Course includes:

  • Recording a full band and a wide range of instruments

  • Mixing tracks using advanced tools such as sidechain and parallel compression

  • Mastering mix-ready songs for streaming platforms

  • Working towards the Rockschool Grade 6+ exam syllabus

Through out partnership with Steinberg, one of the leading music technology companies in music education, students enrolled in our online classes gain free access to Cubase software to use at home.

Our in house Focusrite 16 channel recording system uses the latest software running on an industry standard Carillon Audio PC. We have a selection of high quality microphones and some great acoustic spaces at our building, which can be utilised to record contemporary bands, choirs or even orchestras. Our mobile recording setup also allows us to visit schools and capture a wide range of performances.
