Small group and individual teaching

NMPAT are pleased to work with nearly every school in Northamptonshire, providing instrumental and vocal lessons to children and young people.

In most schools, NMPAT works in partnership with the school to deliver a range of instruments: brass, guitar, keyboard, music production, percussion, strings, voice and woodwind.  Tuition is not normally provided before year 3, although some younger children may be suitable for violin or recorder lessons.  Pupils are usually taught in small groups up to a maximum of six pupils per hour.  NMPAT are no longer able to subsidise visits to schools of less than an hour.  Orchestral instruments and music production equipment are loaned, free of charge, for the first year of learning, with a voluntary contribution to NMPAT for extended loan.

Payment for the lessons is made directly to the school and each school is able to set their own charging and remissions policy.  NMPAT is able to offer some support for those in financial need – more information can be found on our financial support page.  Please do direct parents and carers to this information as we are committed to removing any barriers to participation: www.nmpat.co.uk/support

You can see your current provision, and make a request for the new academic year, by logging in to the school iPresto account.  Please contact the NMPAT Office if you do not know the school log in details: office@nmpat.co.uk

Once logged in, it is possible to view registers, which include weekly attendance logs and termly attainment data.  For details on what register markings refer to, please click here to see our guide.

All NMPAT staff are qualified, experienced musicians who have been subject to a safer recruitment process and enhanced criminal record check.  Teachers are regularly observed and receive training throughout the year them maintain and develop their teaching skills.

Teachers are required to keep accurate records and sign in when they arrive at each school.  Lessons are delivered for 33 weeks across an academic year, leaving five weeks available for teachers to make up any lessons they have missed.  Where appropriate, schools will be refunded for lessons that cannot be caught up at the end of the school year – please ensure you have read the full terms and conditions around chargeable visits and catch up visits, available on our terms and conditions and policies page.

If you have students at school interested in learning an instrument that isn’t currently offered, you are welcome to request a visit at any time throughout the year.

We normally ask for at least 6 students interested in lessons, to make up the minimum visit of one hour, and can help you to promote lessons in your school if needed.  Please visit our school admin page for templates and advertising materials, or contact the NMPAT Office: office@nmpat.co.uk
