Inspiring young musicians across our region
For over 50 years, Northampton Music and Performing Arts Trust (NMPAT) has been sharing the gift of music with thousands of young people across Northamptonshire and Rutland. As the lead partner of the Northamptonshire and Rutland Music Hub, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to discover the joy, confidence, and creativity that music brings – regardless of background, ability, or aspiration.
Excellence and inclusion, hand in hand
Our mission is simple: to provide high-quality music education and unforgettable musical experiences to as many young people as possible. From pre-school sessions to our adult community choir, we welcome everyone into our musical family.
While many of our students progress to study at top music colleges and conservatoires – and some have built successful careers as professional musicians – our primary goal is enrichment, not just achievement. We nurture talent, celebrate progress, and create a supportive environment where young people can thrive.
A comprehensive musical journey
NMPAT delivers expert tuition across hundreds of schools to thousands of children and young people in Northamptonshire and Rutland. What sets us apart from other providers of music tuition is the range of instruments that we offer – everything from the marimba to the bassoon, the euphonium and the harp! We believe that learning to play an instrument doesn’t have to be a solo experience. Music is about connecting with others and we strive to deliver opportunity for young people to play together. Our ten NMPAT Centres, spread across the region, are a perfect example of this and serve as creative hubs where students connect, collaborate, and grow together.
With nearly 30 County Ensembles – several recognised nationally for their exceptional standard – we provide pathways for every level of musician. Our ensembles regularly win awards and perform at prestigious venues including the Symphony Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. Yet we’re equally proud of our inclusive classes and groups, where participation and enjoyment take centre stage.
More than music lessons
Each year, NMPAT produces over 150 concerts and performances, giving young musicians invaluable experience and unforgettable memories. Our students don’t just learn music – they build friendships, develop confidence, and discover a place where they truly belong.
Many young people describe NMPAT as their second home. A welcoming, friendly environment where they’re supported, challenged, and celebrated. This sense of family, combined with our commitment to both high standards and genuine inclusion, makes NMPAT a special place to learn and grow.
